I have quite severe depression and horrific periods and its been suggested that i try Implanon. A friend of a friend has a history of severe depression and has never felt better after having implanon however this is the only case i have read or heard about. Any advice from experience is appreciated as one of the side affects of Implanon is depression and I don't want to make things any worse than they already are. I have spoken in the past with a doctor who was hesitant to recommend it. Thanks.Need advice from women who use Implanon and have a history of depression?
Obviously everyone is different but from my expericence with Implanon I wouldn't recommend it. I got it put in 3 weeks after giving birth to my first child, I had suffered from depression in the past and had got off anti-depressents whilst pregnant. But after my son was born I had wild mood swings, was stressed, total lack of libido etc which I put down to being sleep-deprived with a new baby. It wasn't until my son started sleeping through the night and I got loads of sleep I realised I was still behaving badly and couldn't control my moods, I went to the docs who put my on the Pill and within a few days I was back to my 'normal' self, happy and confident etc. I came off the Pill after a few weeks and straight away turned into a ***** again. I begged the doc to put me back on the Pill and now my moods are back to normal again. I'm waiting to have my implant taken out as soon as possible. In my opinion Implanon is a very new contraceptive and not enough research has been done on it, I have spoken to loads of people who have had it removed early due the negative side-effects.Need advice from women who use Implanon and have a history of depression?
Hey there I had implanon implanted about 4 mths ago now and I suffered with depression on and off over the last few years. In my personal opinion my painful periods were much more of an incentive to have this done than the possibility of further depression but thats was just my opinion. I have not had any further problems with depression since having implanon especially considering the problems i have had in the past with oral contraceptives and depression. The main thing is that you feel comfortable with the choice and that what you choose is right for your situation. There are still plenty of other people out there who have had positive experences with implanon even if they have a mental health history
