Advice for Women Traveling to Dubai?

Hi, my mother and I will be traveling to Dubai next month and I am wondering if anyone has any advice about staying safe and avoiding any possible harassment. We are already planning on wearing lightweight longsleeve shirts and pants, so as not to be ';immodest';. I appreciate any bits of info. Thanks!Advice for Women Traveling to Dubai?
i live and worked in dubai before.completely safe, you can wear anything you want.Go get tanned at Jumeirah Baech, even arab wear bikini. No one will say anything, forget the stare and enjoy the stay....

FYI : If u muslim and not cover yourself, get ready to get lecture from Pakistani taxi driver.Especially when u out wearing mini skirt like me.

FYI #2 : Indian %26amp; Pakistani guy there will scared you out. So when u go to place like Old Souq - Deira, wear jeans and t shirt. You will still get the stare cos this people hunger for women...if u know what i mean. They wont do anything, but u wont feel comfortable.Advice for Women Traveling to Dubai?
I think your on the right track already!

Dubai, per se,is a very safe place to be,even today-relatively compared to any other Middle Eastern city..people are pretty chilled out,u can stay out till pretty late at night socialising etc

Yeah, not having a car of your own could be a problem-as in getting around,'coz taxi service here is pretty pathetic-a better option would be knowing the bus routes

So just be yourself, try %26amp; learn a few basic Arabic words, have fun on the beach %26amp; lose yourself in the shopping!

But try %26amp; book rooms at a decent hotel

People here are friendly..just avoid any kind of ';overfriendliness';
Yes, Dubai is pretty much open, but women should wear respectable clothes. I know that many would tell you that it's ok to wear mini skirts or mini shorts, but being a UAE national, I can say that it's pretty offensive. Also try to avoid open-back blouses and very short dresses especially in crowded places including shopping malls.

I hope you enjoy your stay :)
Heyy :)

Ok basically don't worry if you go to places like malls and restaurants and stuff you will be fine in a T-shirt and jeans. It really depends where in Dubai you are going but in general don't get in the car with people you don't know and you'll be fine. Also, keep in mind while packing that it is really hot here!! Oh and next month will be a good time for the beaches :)

Hope you enjoy it!

Message me if you want to know anything else.
Good for you - how very rare to see western tourists being so sensitive to local culture.

In the souks, just wear your pants and long sleeve shirts i see no reason, like someone commented earlier, that men will eye you offensively. Bcos they are quite used to western tourists there - and in far less than you are suggesting!

You are obviously an intelligent person and i dont think you need any more advice from anyone - just relax and enjoy your stay here.
It's an open city, you can wear sleeveless shirts or shorts that's fine. In fact there are more foreigners in the area than locals. You will enjoy the weather, places to go to like the malls, clubs, restaurants and the beaches. The place is safe. I'm from Chicago but I've lived there for a couple of years
hi there,

people here dress the way they like as long as they are modest. jeans tshirts sleevless, shorts are accepted here, some people wear minishorts and minjeans which is not appropiate but nobody would harrase them, they will just stare at them.

its an open minded city with over 70% forigners from around the world.

about staying safe, this city is very safe as long as u take care of ur self, night life is amazing with shops open till midnight.

cheers
